I draw and paint figures and portraits to express emotional moments and suggest narrative, inviting the viewer to resonate with the intensely personal yet universal aspects of human experience. I am interested in exploring our inner worlds, our emotional mindscapes, and portraying this though impactful, colourful images. The energy and flow of the elements, notably the sea and the wind, recur as thematic settings. I work intuitively, from selecting references to choice of media and style, mainly using chalk pastels, graphite, ink and oil paint. My personal illness experiences and professional background of mental health nursing have led me to see the face and the figure as vehicles for expression. My practice is grounded in frequent life drawing.
